Deadline Is Sept. 25 For Wall Mural, Utility Box Painting And Storm Drain Art Opportunities
The city of Las Vegas requests submissions from artists who are interested in applying for one or more of the following opportunities. Artists must be 18 years of age or older and must be qualified to work for the city; current city employees are not eligible to participate. Submissions for all are due Monday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m.
In an effort to incorporate a creative, engaging and visually inspiring public art mural program, original design proposals are being accepted for the Neonopolis parking garage entrance and exit ramp walls. Interested artists must submit a letter of interest and an original design proposal with a unifying theme of water. The selected artist will receive $20,000 for the entire project, including artist fees, paint, supplies, travel and documentation of artwork.
The city also is beautifying the urban environment by expanding the AMP Utility Box Painting Program. Selected artists will be offered $2,500 to develop a proposal, present it to the Las Vegas Arts Commission and paint four utility boxes with original designs. To apply, artists must submit a letter of interest, resume/curriculum vitae and up to 10 images of past work.
To help educate citizens and visitors about storm water pollution, a letter of interest and original proposal(s) are being accepted for storm drain art for various locations throughout the city. Art must include, but is not limited to, the following information: city of Las Vegas, storm drain, drains to Lake Mead and an artistic interpretation of Kip the Fish. Selected artists will receive $500 to paint one (1) storm drain; alkyd enamel solvent-based, low-VOC paints, supplies and graffiti coat to be provided by the city.
Artists also are invited to apply to be part of the city’s mural arts program. Those interested must submit a letter of interest, resume/curriculum vitae and up to 10 images of past work. An evaluation panel will select artists based on artistic merit, experience and capability. Budgets will range from $2,500 to $10,000, based on site, scale, scope and possible educational component and community engagement; paint, supplies and graffiti coat will be provided by the city.
