The all-suite hotel opened in 1990 with 430 suites, and in 1993 the 20-story expansion tower was added to the current Ipanema Tower. The Rio now boasts two towers with more than 2,500 suites including the nine lavish Palazzo Suites.
The Rio opened with the popular Carnival World Buffet which features more than 300 dishes prepared daily and was the first buffet in Las Vegas to offer live cooking stations on the buffet line. Café Martorano opened in 2007 and continues to offer diners authentic Italian cuisine from Steve Martorano.
Danny Gans headlined for four years at the Rio departing in 2000, and the Masquerade Show in the Sky launched in 1997 and continues to entertain audiences today. The Rio's Samba Theatre played host to the 30th Anniversary Special for the hit CBS game show The Price Is Right in 2002 and in 2006 Prince thrilled standing-room only audiences in the Rio’s Club Rio.
