Winners Were Announced At The Festival’s Opening Reception
LAS VEGAS – Oct.18, 2019 – The 2019 Las Vegas Book Festival announced its Crystal Bookmark Award Recipients at its opening reception this evening. The awards recognize contributions made to encouraging mastery of the written, spoken and/or illustrated word to unlock the potential of residents in the Las Vegas and Southern Nevada area.
The individual recognition was awarded to Susan Peterson, school psychologist, author and founder and director of the Human Relations Indie Book Awards. Established in 2016, the awards recognize indie authors who have written books with a human relations focus related to various interactions among people in different settings such as work, organizations, school, home, family or in personal lives. In addition to creating a platform for indie authors to be recognized for a wide range of perspectives, Peterson has brought national and international indie authors to Las Vegas.
The organizational recognition was awarded to Smallworks Press for publishing books this past year that document Las Vegas history, “Street Art Las Vegas” and “Motel Vegas.” Founded in 2006, Smallworks is based in Las Vegas and specializes in art and culture publications. The company’s publications enhance the city’s offerings in a way for locals and people around the world to better understand the city and people who call it home.
Nominations for the award were submitted online. A panel of judges selected the winners.
