Entries Due April 24, 2019
In celebration of Older Americans Month May 2019, the city of Las Vegas Arts Commission is sponsoring the annual fine arts competition, “Celebrating Life!” to recognize the talents of Southern Nevada artists age 50 and better. This is the 19th year for this popular art competition for seniors.
Entries will be accepted on Tuesday, April 23, and Wednesday, April 24, at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, located at 800 S. Brush St. Entries will be accepted between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on both days. There is no fee to enter, but only one work per artist may be submitted for jury.
A “meet-the-artists” reception and awards ceremony open to the public will be held Friday, May 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Charleston Heights Arts Center. The Best of Show winner will receive $500. First ($250), second ($150), third ($100) and honorable mention (plaque) awards are available in each category.
Eligible fine art media categories include: Drawing and Pastel; Painting (oil and acrylic); Mixed Media (printmaking, collage, computer graphics, etc.); Photography (black and white, color, digital, electrophotography, etc.); Ceramic (both hand built and wheel thrown); Sculpture (non-ceramic); Watercolor and Gouache. The work must be ready for display, completed within the past three years and not previously juried into a Celebrating Life! exhibition.
Artists whose artwork is not juried into Celebrating Life! 2019 will have the option to have it displayed in the Salon des Refusés exhibit in the Charleston Height Arts Center Gallery. This exhibit will remain on display from May 24 through June 22, 2019.
This year’s juror, the Director and Curator of the Phoenix Institute of Contemporary Art Ted G. Decker, will select the artwork for the final exhibition, which will run from May 24 through July 13, 2019, at the Charleston Heights Arts Center.

Award-winning pieces from this year’s exhibit will be displayed in the City Hall Chamber Gallery from July 22 through Oct. 3, 2019.
