City Of Las Vegas Presents Three StorySLAM Events During 2019-2020 Season

Explore “The Dark Side” This Saturday, Oct. 26, 7 P.M., At Charleston Heights Arts Center

The city of Las Vegas’ StorySLAM program is a celebration of words and experiences. Members of the Las Vegas community are invited to share their personal stories connected with each theme.

The 2019-2020 season is as follows:

  • Saturday, Oct. 26, 7 p.m.: “The Dark Side” – Sometimes we need to expose ourselves to the darkness to appreciate the light. Storytellers recount experiences of encounters with the dark side. The event will conclude with a performance by Tyrell Rolle, award-winning dancer, who will perform an original movement piece that incorporates the theme.
  • Saturday, Feb. 8, 7 p.m.: “…Oops.” – No word in the English language captures the drama and tension of a mistake as well as the word “oops.” Storytellers share the humor, gravity and thrill of experiences that made them say “oops.”
  • Saturday, May 9, 7 p.m.: “Best Laid Plans” – Sometimes, no matter how prepared you are, life throws you a curveball. Storytellers share the triumphs and tragedies that disrupted their best laid plans.

The program offers a free workshop series that helps storytellers refine ideas, create a story to be shared on stage, as well as learn techniques from teaching artists. These sessions take place on the Thursday prior to each event. Those interested in participating in any of these events can contact Cory Goble at cgoble@lasvegasnevada.gov.

All StorySLAM events are held at Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St. The entry fee is pay what you wish; $5 is suggested. Since material may be unsuitable for children under age 13, parental guidance is suggested.

This event is funded in part by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. For information, visit www.ArtsLasVegas.org or call 702-229-ARTS (2787).
