Classical music and hip-hop music professionals and fans are invited to explore music method sampling, also known as “Meta Music,” with the professional musicians of Ensemble Mik Nawooj. Join JooWan Kim, the ensemble’s artistic director, lyricist Sandman and Executive Director Christopher Nicholas from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Historic Fifth Street School for a free public lecture and question-and-answer session.

Classical music meets hip-hop, and meta music is born. Audiences don’t expect it. See the video for a better understanding of what to expect. Admission to the lecture is free and open to the public. The Historic Fifth Street School is located at 401 S. Fourth St. in downtown Las Vegas.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. performance are still available online, priced at $27.25, including the 9-percent live entertainment tax.

Led by composer/pianist, JooWan Kim, the hip-hop orchestra, Ensemble Mik Nawooj, creates meta music by sampling principles of hip-hop and classical music. Executed with MC/lyricist Sandman, a lyric soprano, flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, drums and bass, the music is rigorous, nuanced and unique.

The breakout hit of the Juried Showcase at the Western Arts Alliance annual conference in 2018 in Las Vegas, Ensemble Mik Nawooj was a featured artist in the Western States Arts Federation Independent Music Tour program, and now is signed with Opus 3 Artists.
