Join Ward 5 Councilman Cedric Crear 2 P.M. Thursday At 451 E. Bonanza Road

The city of Las Vegas invites residents to join Ward 5 Councilman Cedric Crear for the grand opening of the Dula Community Center at 451 E. Bonanza Road, Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, at 2 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served and tours will be available. This new multigenerational center combines the original 1955 Robert Dula Memorial Gymnasium and the adjacent 1976 Las Vegas Senior Center into one center offering programs for all ages and abilities. Center hours will be Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The original senior center building has been completely remodeled, now sporting a new front desk, windows, flooring, paint and better facilities to serve those with disabilities. Doorways have been widened and restrooms and water fountains have been improved. The Las Vegas Senior Center was closed in June 2019 to enable remodeling. The improvements cost $2.3 million and were funded by the city of Las Vegas Capital Improvement Project Fund. The improvements contractor was Core Construction. The Las Vegas City Council voted Jan. 15 to approve the combined new center’s name.

Programming will include activities and events for a variety of ages and abilities, including youth, adults and seniors. Sports programming will include basketball, table tennis, volleyball, adaptive adult wheelchair basketball and rugby (with tournaments) and pickleball.

“City residents have looked forward to this opening with great anticipation,” said Ward 5 Councilman Crear. “The Las Vegas Senior Center has been one of Las Vegas’ most popular centers, and I know residents will enjoy the improvements we have made.”
