Big changes are in store this week at McCarran International Airport. Beginning Tuesday morning, Terminal 3 will serve domestic flights as five air carriers relocate from Terminal 1. These are: Alaska Airlines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Sun Country Airlines and Virgin America

Terminal 3 is a 14-gate standalone facility located east of McCarran’s Terminal 1, south of Russell Road between Paradise Road and Eastern Avenue (see attached map). It includes its own parking structure, ticketing lobby, baggage claim and security checkpoints, as well as 16 stores and restaurants. “T3” has been in use since June 27, though for its first five weeks it has exclusively housed foreign airlines that operate direct flights to or from destinations outside the United States.

“Relocating some domestic airlines to Terminal 3 will improve our customers’ airport experience by enabling us to ease peak-period congestion within Terminal 1’s departures roadways, ticketing lobby, baggage claim and passenger pick-up areas,” said Randall H. Walker, Clark County Director of Aviation. “We recognize local travelers have long been accustomed to finding nearly all of McCarran’s domestic carriers at Terminal 1, so this will be quite a change. That’s why it’s important to take time to ‘Know Before You Go’ whether you’re flying out, or just picking up a friend or relative at McCarran.”

Electronic signs have been placed above each roadway leading into McCarran to inform approaching drivers which airlines are based at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3. Likewise, the airport’s website was recently redesigned to better emphasize where airport users should look for their respective airlines. Either resource will quickly steer airport users toward their intended terminal.

Travelers who are flying out or arriving on AirTran, Allegiant, American, Delta, Great Lakes, Omni, Southwest and Spirit will continue to use McCarran’s Terminal 1. Hawaiian and United will also remain at Terminal 1 until Aug. 22, at which time those two carriers’ ticketing and baggage claim services will transition to Terminal 3. All foreign-based airlines now operate from Terminal 3.
